Thousands of Gen Con attendees have purchased their badges for the historic Gen Con 50! Have you?
Badges are available now at gencon.com, and if you would like to participate in Sunday’s opening of Gen Con 50 Housing Registration, you will need a valid attendee-type badge (4-day, Thursday, Friday, Saturday, Trade Day, or Sunday’s Family Fun Day).
2017 Housing Reminder Notes
As detailed in prior newsletters, Housing Registration in 2017 will differ from prior years’ processes. The most important change to know is that all attendee badge purchasers will receive a unique randomized access time the day before Housing Registration opens. All attendee-type badge purchasers will receive access times. Not all attendees receiving access times will participate in Housing Registration. Extra time also has been built into the registration process, so attendees should not be discouraged if they receive a much later access time compared to previous years.
After randomization of all the purchasers of attendee-type badges, a countdown timer for your unique access time will appear on your “My Housing” page on gencon.com.
All customers that purchase an attendee-type badge after Housing Portal access times have been assigned will be placed at the end of the Housing Portal Access queue.
The first customer in-queue will gain access to the Housing Portal at noon (Eastern) on Sunday, February 12 with subsequent customers receiving access thereafter. Badge purchasers can reserve one room for every 1-2 badges purchased. Rooms will be reserved one-at-a-time, in real-time. Refreshing your browser page will not cause you to lose your position in the Housing Portal Access queue.
Nightly minimum stay restrictions will be in-effect again for all hotels in the downtown area. Reservations for hotels in the downtown area must consist of three or more consecutive dates and must include the night of Saturday, August 19. Nightly minimum stay restrictions will remain in place throughout Housing Registration. Reservations at suburban hotels are not subject to nightly minimum stay restrictions.
To secure your hotel reservation, you must use a credit card that expires after the 2017 convention. The Housing Portal will not allow you to reserve a room with a credit card that expires before the convention ends.
Still Have Questions? If you have questions about housing, you can get them answered at the Housing Q&A forum page or by emailing email@example.com. Please ask your registration and account questions as early as possible, as Customer Service will become extremely busy during the opening of Badge Pre-Registration and Housing Registration.

Child Advocates Selected as Gen Con 50 Charity Partner
As announced earlier today via press release, Gen Con has chosen Indianapolis-based charity Child Advocates as its Official Charity Partner for 2017. As part of this agreement, they will receive the proceeds from Gen Con’s numerous longstanding charity events, including a charity auction, a balloon sculpture and its destruction, and the popular “Cardhalla,” a giant construction of cards. During its time in Indy, Gen Con has raised more than $230,000 for local charity partners including organizations such as Big Brothers Big Sisters of Central Indiana, Gleaners Food Bank, and the Julian Center.
“We at Child Advocates are thrilled to be included in the Gen Con 50 event,” said Cindy Booth, Executive Director at Child Advocates. “Child Advocates is celebrating our 35th year of advocacy for children in Indianapolis and what a way to help us celebrate: benefiting from the generous participants of Gen Con, who’ve had a long history of helping children in our community while enjoying their time at Gen Con.”
Child Advocates is the Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA) chosen by the courts in Marion County to represent the best interests of abused and neglected children. Volunteers assist staff professionals in each child’s case to make sure those children do not get lost in the system, that their needs are met during their court cases, and that a safe, permanent home is found for them as soon as possible. Their volunteers help ensure that the more than 7,000 children whose cases they monitor each year have a voice in court and are placed in a safe and permanent home as soon as possible.
“Gen Con is honored to work with the team at Child Advocates,” said Adrian Swartout, CEO/Owner of Gen Con. “Their work makes an immediate and important impact in the lives of children in the Indy community. Our team takes great pride in the kindness and compassion of our attendees, exhibitors, and sponsors. We hope for another great donation that really pays tribute to our 50th convention.”

Gen Con Partners with Temple University’s Digital Scholarship Center
Gen Con is also excited to announce a new partnership with Temple University’s Digital Scholarship Center which will work on the creation of an online database of events for all 50 years of the Gen Con gaming convention. The database will be available for public use with an accompanying exhibit site for articles. With this event information, researchers can apply digital scholarship techniques, including textual and network analysis, to learn how gaming has changed as reflected through Gen Con. This project is expected to “go live” July 2017. GeekDad Returns as Media Partner for Gen Con 50
Returning as a Media Partner in 2017, GeekDad again will have numerous on-site press members. They will cover debuting games, participate and write about events, and follow stories about family gaming. The Gen Con team is happy to have them return!
GeekDad is an award-winning community blog made up of parents from all over the world, seeking to raise their kids in their own geeky image. For the last ten years, they’ve delivered daily content about what they love as geeks and parents, especially in the area of tabletop gaming, which they think is one of the greatest family activities there is.
