Gen Con hosts numerous ticketed events in a variety of categories, including wildly popular events like True Dungeon, gaming events like RPGs, board games and card games, as well as Entertainment events and informational Seminars and Workshops. Some events have a cost; some events are free. For admittance to an event, even a free one, you must have event ticket. Your badge grants access to the Exhibit Hall and numerous areas in the convention center and participating hotels, but your event ticket guarantees you a seat.
Event Registration will begin on Sunday, May 15 at noon (Eastern). Anyone with a Gen Con 2016 badge may participate. Event Registration will stay open throughout the convention, however, events in high demand will sell out rapidly. Other events may have availability throughout the convention. Before Event Registration begins, attendees may create Wish Lists to submit on Sunday when it opens. Wish Lists will prioritize your event choices, and will be necessary for securing high-demand tickets. These Wish Lists will process in the order in which they are received, and once accepted, will add event tickets to the carts of the attendees. Attendees then will need to complete their transaction in their cart to secure their tickets. If attendees do not complete their transactions within two hours, their event tickets will return to the system.
Tickets will ship with your badges if they are mailed, or will be available at Will Call in your packet if you selected that option.
How Do I Create a Wish List?
First, you must have an account on gencon.com with a badge for Gen Con 2016. When signed-in to your account, if you have a badge, you may start adding events to your Wish Lists. Your badge must be purchased prior to building a Wish List. Adding the first event ticket will create your Wish List. There are three main ways to search for events: the Event Finder tool which works on mobile and desktop, the classic Event Finder, and the downloadable spreadsheet which updates every six hours.
When your Wish List is created, you can find it and modify it by finding the “My Wish List” link on the top right of the gencon.com website navigation. You will mouse over your account ID to make the “Your Wish List” link appear. At that link, you may re-order your events, changing their prioritization. You may add events that overlap in schedule, but if overlapping events are all available, priority will be given to the highest ranked event in your Wish List. You cannot double book events for the same time slots. All remaining events that conflict with tickets that you have in your cart will be skipped automatically.
You may have no more than 50 events in your Wish List.
How Do I Submit my Wish List?
When Event Registration opens at noon (Eastern), a link will appear on your Wish List’s page, allowing you to submit it. You will be assigned a number with your current place in queue. You may refresh periodically without affecting your queue order, however, frequent refreshing may slow down the processing time of Wish Lists. Your Wish List will process in the order in which it is received.
What Can I Do if Events Sell Out?
First, it is important to note that there are 12,500 events in the current schedule, and that number will grow throughout the summer. New events will be added; sometimes including additional slots for events in high demand. That said, highly demanded events will have hundreds of more Wish List requests than available tickets. Events have a limited number of seats, and some sell out on the first day.
Building a larger Wish List will create more opportunities for you to get in to events that you desire. Plans do change for attendees, and tickets may become available for events, so you will want to check periodically to see if event tickets become available. During the opening days of Event Registration, attendees’ schedules may shift dramatically, so tickets for events are even more likely to become available then. If you do not receive your highest priority events, please check back periodically after Event Registration’s opening days to see if those tickets become available.
What Are Generic Tickets?
After Event Registration has been open for several hours, Gen Con will make Generic Tickets available. Generic Tickets can be used on-site to join events for which you don’t have a specific event ticket. If there are “no shows” for an event, the organizer may allow those holding Generic Tickets to join in open spots. You also can use Generic Tickets to join events that you discover at the show.
Have More Questions?
The Events team and attendees are answering frequently asked questions in a Gen Con forum thread. Have a question? Get it answered there! The team will gather common questions and get them added to future email newsletters. Have account questions? Please email firstname.lastname@example.org. You will want to do this early, as during Event Registration, communication will be infrequent due to high volume.
