Badge Sales and Housing Registration Open in this Week
Yes, the week that you have waited for has arrived! Badge Pre-Registration begins this Friday, January 22 with Housing Registration opening at noon (Eastern) on Sunday, January 24. Gen Con 2016 is less than 200 days away!
The Gen Con team would like to stress again that demand for downtown hotel rooms vastly outstrips the available supply. Due to this large demand, not everyone interested will get one a downtown room. However, suburban housing typically is both less expensive and available throughout the convention. While not all attendees may get their first choice of lodging, many options exist in the Indianapolis metro, and there are many inexpensive ride-sharing and commuting options.
Have Specific Badge Pre-Registration Questions?
Are you planning to attend Gen Con 2016 on Family Fun Day, or planning to attend as an exhibitor, Trade Day participant, Volunteer, EO/GM, or member of the press? Gen Con released a newsletter last week that answers some questions that you may have on the Pre-Registration and Housing process. If you missed it, you can read it here. Still have questions? Housing Registration Overview
Never participated in Gen Con Housing Registration before? Don’t stress.
The Housing Registration system was created to give all attendees a chance at getting the hotel room of their choice. Gen Con will randomize each customer’s access to the Housing Portal to book lodging. Scheduling access to the housing portal also helps distribute traffic, eliminating request “time outs” and crashing. If a customer would like to reserve lodging during Housing Registration, they should go to their “My Housing” page on gencon.com, which is located under their name after they sign-in. All those participating must have purchased a valid Gen Con 2016 badge before receiving an access time.
When Housing Registration opens at noon (Eastern), all participating customers automatically will be assigned a random access time via their “My Housing” page. The “Make Reservation” button on your “My Housing” page will activate when you receive access to the Housing Portal. From there, you may make one reservation at a time. Important note: all reservations are completed in real-time. Until you select a specific room and begin the checkout process, that room may be reserved by another customer. Once you have started the checkout process, the room will be held for up to 10 minutes while you complete the transaction.
Randomized access times may vary between a few seconds and a few hours after Housing Registration opens, depending on the volume of participants. Customers may refresh their “My Housing” page periodically without losing their access time.
Nightly Minimum Stays
Nightly minimum stay restrictions are in-effect for all hotels in the downtown area. Reservations for hotels in the downtown area must consist of three or more consecutive dates and must include the night of Saturday August 6, 2016. Nightly minimum stay restrictions will remain in place throughout the housing cycle. Reservations at suburban hotels are not subject to nightly minimum stay restrictions.
Room Limits In-Place
Badge purchasers are allowed to book one hotel room for every 1-2 badges purchased. The following is an easy table to note how many rooms may be reserved per badge. Rooms are reserved one-at-a-time.
1-2 badges = One room
3-4 badges = Two rooms
5-6 badges = Three rooms
7+ badges = etc …
Disability Compliant ADA Rooms Restricted from Online Booking
Individuals needing ADA rooms are invited to call 317-688-1323 when Housing Registration opens to make their reservations. On opening day, Call Center assistance will be provided only to individuals needing to book ADA rooms and individuals needing assistance with existing reservations.
Check your Credit Card Expiration Date
You must secure your hotel reservation with a credit card that has an expiration date after the convention. Credit cards that expire before the convention will be rejected by the system.
Still Have Questions?
If you have questions about housing, you can get them answered at the Housing Q&A forum page or by emailing email@example.com. Please don’t wait until the last minute to get your registration and account questions answered, as customer service will become very busy during the opening of Badge Pre-Registration and Housing Registration. Customer phone support during Housing Registration will be restricted to individuals having valid reservation acknowledgements.
